go old school.... may get fungal growth on your files, but never a virus, is extremely "green" with a ten star energy rating. NEVER crashes, can be oiled to work more quietly. Lasts forever.

What Cad program are you using. I keep mine in a separate folder on my hard drive. Safest place is on dvd in case of crash. Depending on cad program, there are thumbnail viewers that will let you see the file in explorer window so you don't have to open file to see what it is.

To me, it is not the program, but the organization that makes the difference. I have a separate drive for ArtCAM files.

Folders for current work, files to archive, art resources, and tutorials. Individual projects are named after clients and a description. I'll put images in each folder with the CAD files so I can search thumbnails if I need to.

Work is created in the current folder and works its way to the files to archive and then to dvds and a backup drive. Still have most of my CAD files going back to 93 where I can find them. Nice flow off the current computer and to backup drives.

For those of you that use more than one computer to do your work, DropBox.com might be the ticket. Also works as an internet backup. Keeps a file copy on each of the linked computers with the most current version. If you edit a file on cumputer A, DropBox will update a copy of the file on the hard drives of computers B and C. Make changes on C and the uter two will get the new copy automatically.

2 GB are free and if you PM me for a referal, you will get an additional 250MB. I used to take files back and forth from home and work. Had trouble keeping track of the current version or would forget the memory stick. Now I can open my files on any internet connected computer, anywhere.
